Personally, because you can only equip four spells at a time, I granted my AI companion (who can also be controlled by a second player) these more defensive ones, and whilst I was laying down the law, he was there to back me up.Īs you advance through the game you’ll also unlock a few ‘Royal Powers’ too. The more defensive spells grant you a shield, regenerate your mana, and allow you to suck enemies into a black hole and hold them in place whilst you attack. Each of these can pack quite the punch, though personally I levelled up my fire spell and set ablaze those foolish enough to oppose me. Offense see you utilising ice, fire, lightning, wind, celestial beams, laser beams, traps, or a boost in your attack to deal with foes. There’s a healing spell, which is obviously a life-saver in certain situations, alongside both offensive and defensive spells. It’s worth doing for some spells, as enemies do take elemental damage, though this didn’t seem to be detrimental if you opted to not try and be tactical- which was nice. All these can be upgraded at a mage tower, providing you with even more magical power with which to smite your foes. Rude.īefore we go into how you’ll acquire weapons, armour, and spells, I’ll briefly mention the spells themselves. I should note, you WILL NOT gain enough coins to level everything though, so bear that in mind. I’ll be honest, I stuck to upgrading the one or two items I became most familiar with, but there’s definitely room for experimentation.
Golden keys cat quest 2 upgrade#
Kit Cat will upgrade your armour, whilst a little later down the line you’ll have the opportunity to start visiting Hotto Doggo, the pup responsible for making sure your weapons are in tip-top condition. There are also weapons and armour that boost elemental damage, so keep an eye out for those.Īll weapons and armour can be upgraded at the appropriate vendor. There are probably more I’m missing off, and to say the game doesn’t give leniency in how you can go about utilising its equipment is just foolish. There are numerous bonus effects that different items can bestow upon you which includes bonus defense, an extra chance to land critical hits, boosts in physical damage, roll distance, experience earned and coins drops, as well as buffs to your health or mana. There are also magical spells to find throughout the world to aid you in your quest. Armour takes the form of chest pieces and headgear. Weapons include swords, axes, clubs, and magical staffs. In terms of the items you can collect, there’s a fair few. There’s little use making this sort of game without a levelling system and an arsenal of various weapons, equipment, and powers to put to use. that you’re a fan of is referenced in Cat Quest 2. Trust me, at least one movie, game, book, etc. Quests that require a little more elbow grease to their pop culture-filled objectives included stopping Dr Jekitt and Kitward Kyde from becoming an unstoppable monster, aiding Ammuttdeus Woofgang in sneaking into the Dog Kingdom, ensuring the Doge Knight could defeat Two Fur-Face, concocting the ultimate hotdog with the help of Pawdon Ruffsey (and stopping the nefarious Caesar Sal Lad from disrupting this), and taking part in a quest I’m certain was referencing The Matrix. Both of these were some of the more humourous quests in the game, in that they don’t offer too much of a challenge (or any really) and yet still had me chuckling, whilst reminding me of the charm to the game. One quest had me simply competing in a staring competition, whilst another saw me become a champion at rock, paper, scissors. There’s more than a few pop culture refences crammed into Cat Quest 2 and I’ve decided to note down a few of my favourites here.

I want to give praise to the side quests though, as these certainly outshone the main ones, even though those too were delightful. The plot itself isn’t necessarily something you’ve not seen before, but there’s a charm to the game and its messages that stand out, nonetheless. As such, it’s up to you and your companion (a cat and dog, respectively) to try and bring peace and order back to the lands by forging the Legendary Kingsblade to defeat the forces of evil who rule either kingdom. These two nations once worked together, but in typical power-corrupting fashion, this alliance didn’t hold.

There’s the Cat Kingdom and there’s the Dog Kingdom.

I’ll start off by briefly discussing the main narrative. I’ll also mention that there may be a few spoilers here and there, for those wanting to go in blind. As always, this isn’t a review as such, but more so a spruced-up version of all the notes I made when playing the game. Today I want to let you know all about my thoughts regarding Cat Quest 2. Welcome to this Dualshocks Discussions instalment.
