This was what carried all of the civil war soldiers’ tubes of ammunition, they were as shown above adorned with a US Plate Stamp and the strap (which isn’t shown) has a brass Eagle Breast Plate which has to be bought separately, this again a must for all members.

This is a must for new members’ uniforms. This was the regulation belt for the common soldier, adjusted for different sized waists it fit well and allowed men to attach both their cap pouch and bayonet scabbard to it. This is an essential piece of kit for all members and we recommend getting them as soon as possible. This was part of most dress uniforms for union soldiers. This was an extended version of the sack coat with a longer trail down to the legs and more length and cuffs on the arms. This is recommended to new members as it is the cheapest and best for starting out in reenacting. This was the regulation uniform for the common civil war soldier, it was a simple wool coat with 4 US buttons and a inlined coat pocket near the left breast. The above shown is a reproduction of the jacket used by the 2nd NY. If members are wanting to portray the early to mid war impression then this is the best choice to buy. The state stopped supplying them by 1862 and new enlistees were given the regular sack coat or frock coat. This was the main jacket of the 69th New York at the beginning of the civil war, it was light with muffin buttons down the chest and on the cuffs and shoulder straps. These can be useful for our early war impressions. The havelock is a cover for you headgear to protect your neck from the sun, this cotton cover is light and useful for the soldier in the field when the sun comes out. The Kepi was also popular in the Eastern theater during the civil war, less commonly worn by the enlisted the kepi can be commonly seen on the heads of officers. These were used by the 69th and are recommended for our members to get for reenactment.

The McDowell was similar but with a shorter brim and taller center. The most common used Cap was the forage cap, shown above, the cap provided protection from the sun and was useful for foraging berries or other foods the men could get their hands on. When portraying a civil war unit we must follow what the real men wore during the period.
